THE GREAT MUSEUM
2026-09-25 @ 19:00
In his documentary, filmmaker Johannes Holzhausen takes a look at everyday life at the world-famous Kunsthistorisches Museum in Vienna. He shows a keen interest in the restoration work carried out at the museum, but also contrasts this with the economic constraints of running a modern museum. How many people in a wide variety of roles does it take to run such an institution? The film showcases the full spectrum of daily work at the museum. Paintings are examined for insect damage, numerous restoration projects are carried out, budgets are planned in countless meetings, and discussions take place on how to secure additional funding for the museum. Elsewhere, marketing campaigns are developed and visits by politicians are prepared. But this portrait by no means overlooks the internal problems and conflicts either.
